Techniques
Apart from offshore
trolling, which is still seldom practiced, all fishing techniques
are possible in the archipelago. Bottom fishing and jigging do
well with many rockfishes, large and small. Trolling near the shore
is rewarding for tuna, barracuda, trevally, and wahoo. Casting
with a heavy rod and big lures (poppers) over the big rocky deeps
or coral reefs to hunt for large GT and groupers is most interesting.
These fish are not reluctant to "bite" on big poppers.
Depending on the type of fish you are looking for, you should expect
a run time of between 30 and 90 minutes, on average, to arrive
at the fishing spots. The clarity of the water, as well as the
shallowness of many sites, will allow the fly fishers to use their
preferred technique. |
